High but realistic expectations

All pupils are comprehensively assessed on entry to the school. Challenging, but realistic, targets are set both for academic and ASD specific areas. Pupils are, whenever possible, involved in setting the targets and in the evaluation of how well they are doing in reaching them. Targets are set with pupils’ learning styles and pace of learning in mind and pupil progress is comprehensively recorded each term. Additional assessments are carried out when needed to ensure teaching accurately addresses individual learning needs. IEP targets are ASD specific and aim to address barriers to learning. These are set twice a year – in October and March. When pupils achieve their IEP targets in advance we revise them or set new targets and inform parents of the changes.
